Read about Jerrie Mock
If, like many others, you're stumped to name the first woman to fly solo around the world, you need to read about Jerrie Mock. She has been inducted into WAI's International Pioneer Hall of Fame, and she has a fascinating story of being just an "average" person who had a dream and pursued it.
It's great to see Jerrie's story being told -- check out this piece from Air Facts. You might even want to leave an Atta Girl comment along with the rest of the readers.
You can read mini-bios of all WAI Pioneers at http://wai.org/pioneers/index.cfm. WAI is always looking for new inductees, so if you know an appropriate Pioneer, consult wai.org on how to nominate her.

I am reading the book "West with the Night" by Beryl Markham....She is a pioneer aviator in Kenya. The book is mostly about her adventures in Kenya as she trained race horses and ofcourse flying....interesting read!
